Indian Railways"Mother Express" A tribute to Mother Teresa from Indian RailwaysUpon the 100th Birthday of Nobel Prize awarded Mother Teresa, our Indian Railway Minister – Mamta Banerjee has announced to introduce a trained called as "Mother Express" on August 26, 2010. This train would cover the stations like Baruipur, Krishnagar, Kolkata, Bandel, Howrah, Asansol, Durgapur, Bolpur and Malda before leaving for Katihar in Bihar. According to the Indian Railway Releases: "The train would showcase life and philanthropic deeds of this great soul who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and India's highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna in 1980 for her humanitarian work". "The Exhibition Train aims at preaching the message of humanism and sermon of sacrifice of the Mother". The "Mother Express" is a tribute to the social work and missionary charity to which Mother Teresa dedicated her whole life serving to poor and helpless people all over the world. This train would have three coaches and will covering and running through the various location of India for next 6 months. The "Mother Express" has all the Air conditioned coaches. The train will be exhibiting the pictures and quotes of the great philanthropist Mother Teresa. Missionaries of Charity have contributed the pictures and other stuffs related to Mother Teresa in the projection of "Mother Teresa Express". Mother Teresa was the founder of “Missionary of Charity” in Kolkata. The aim behind this introduction of "Mother Express" is to spread awareness among the people regarding what great social service has been given by Mother Teresa throughout her life. Missionaries of Charity Superior General Sister Prema said: 'Mother used to travel by railway on a regular basis. While travelling to Darjeeling by train in September 1946 she thought of doing something for the poor and needy people and very next day she returned and started working for the noble cause'. The Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC) has welcomed the decision of the Indian Railways to introduce a train in tribute of Mother Teresa.
