Rules To Get Pass In Indian Railway

Indrail passes can be obtained by the foreign tourist as well. Rail passes are always available with the General Sales Agent ordained in Abroad and Rail Travel Agents appointed in India. Indrail passes fares are always in US Dollar, hence the foreign tourist can purchase it easily. All the terms and conditions are described in the passes. By possessing Indrail passes foreign tourists and Non-Resident-Indians (NRI) can travel by Indian trains. Through using rail passes you can plan your holiday trip by sitting back at home. You need not to run after getting the berth reservation. You can even have a short time traveling by train and if you have indrail passes you need not to buy tickets.

Indrail Passes can be purchased only by:

  1. NRI
  2. Foreign Tourists
  3. A guide of foreign tourists
  4. An Indian spouse of Foreign Tourist

There are three classes defined for Indrail Passes:

  1. AC1 : AC executive chair car class
  2. AC2 : ordinary 1st class sleepers and AC chair cars
  3. 2nd Class : Sleeper class and unreserved 2nd class

You can buy any one out of the above three and travel starting from the duration of half day to 90 days of time. Children below 5 years of their age can travel for free while children above 5 to 12 years of the age will be charged half fare.


Tips for purchasing Indrail Pass:

  • For short and single journey buy Half or One day Pass that has the validity up to 12 to 24 hours from the time of the journey started.
  • Just in chance if you are traveling from Rajdhani Express, you can use one class lower than you buy. For example if paying for AC1 then you are eligible to travel by AC2.
