
Indian Railways: The Break Journey Rules
Sometime during having a long-distance journey we may like to have a break, to facilitate such passengers Indian Railway offers the facility of Break Journeys. There are some rules that are to be followed for Break Journey.
Break Journey is available;
For long distance journeys only after travelling minimum 500 Km.
If the passenger is having single journey ticket of more than 500 Km, can have the break journey once for 2 days at any in-routed station. If a passenger having the journey ticket to travel for 800 Km and want to avail the Break Journey facility at 400 Km, he is not allowed. But if a passenger with single journey ticket for 650 Km can halt or have the break journey at 505Km.
Break only for one time
If a passenger has ticket to travel for more than 1000 Km, he/she can avail the facility of Break Journey for only one time during his traveling. For the journey of more than 1000 KM, 2 breaks can be availed depending on passenger own choice. In this case also, the day of departure and arrival must be excluded while calculating the number of eligible days for the first break of journey.
Ticket Endorsement is must
The passenger who is availing the facility of Break Journey has to have ticket endorsed from the Railway Authorities or TC or Station Master. If there is no endorsement made on the passenger’s ticket the particular passenger will be treated as a passenger without ticket.
Facility is limited to certain trains only
All the trains of Indian Railway do not provide the facility of Break Journey. In a case if the passenger is travelling by Rajdhani or Shatabdi Expresses in which the fare structure on point to point basis are not provided with the facility of Break Journeys.
Only if the Break is for more than 24 hours
In any case if the break is for less than 24 hours it can not be treated as break Journey. In many cases the passengers have to change the trains and for that they have to halt their ongoing journey but such journeys are not regarded as Break Journey at all.
If in any case the passenger decides not to continue the journey, it can not be considered as Break Journey.
